A Little Cannabis and Self-Reflection Essay

Cannabis
I fucking LOVE cannabis. Cannabis is such a versatile plant with so many different uses. I could really go on about pot forever, so get ready because you are about to get educated. Marijuana comes in three kinds of strains, indica, sativa, or hybrid. Ganja has two main active ingredients, THC, and CBD that are present in it strains. , which I will explain more about these ingredients in a bit. Indica strains come from short, smaller plants, the flower is normally more dense, and looks like little tightly packed popcorn nugs. These strains are mostly made for medicinal uses, as the active ingredient they have more of is CBD or cannabidiol. CBD is not a psychoactive ingredient, so it does not make you high, but is good for pain relief, useful to people with chronic pain disorders, helps those who have issues sleeping, and even helps people with mental illnesses like anxiety or bipolar disorder to help stay calm. CBD is also completely legal, and gummies, herb, oils, and many other products have been made that isolate the CBD ingredient (no THC; that’s what’s illegal), and are sold in headshops and online all around the country. Now, normal indica strains DO have THC in them, so don’t be fooled, you will get high, but it’ll be a much more calming body high, dominated by the feelings produced by CBD.

Sativa strains are the opposite of Indica strains. They come from tall plants, and the flower produced is normally larger, but less dense than the bud of an indica plant. They produce heavy head highs as their main active ingredient is THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that makes a user high. Sativa strains will have you looking like the typical stoney-baloney marijuana user, and are honestly pretty fucking fun. Lastly, there are hybrid strains, which are strains that are combinations of both indica and sativa strains. These have all different sorts of affects, but tend to lean more one way or the other. All of these types of marijuana are available in various forms, from bud, to wax, to edibles, to oil, every marijuana user has options on how to consume their cannabis.

All of the technical stuff aside, I started really smoking weed when I was 18. I had smoked twice in high school and not having smoked cigarettes or any sort of tobacco product ever I did not inhale correctly, and never truly got high. After my incident with LSD I didn’t go near drugs for another 3 years, but when I went away to college I met another pretty girl, this time named Melissa (ironic right?) who changed my life. Melissa was basically the same person as Alyssa, popular, hot as fuck, but this time a lesbian. She was a badass and had access to enough pot to put Wiz Khalifa down for a day or two. The first time I ever got high was from an edible she had bought me, a pot brownie that rocked my entire fucking world. It started to kick in while I was watching Fantasia, a Disney movie, and colors came to life. Everything was so vibrant and sounded absolutely amazing, my body was so relaxed, and my stoned little happy ass ate half of a pizza and fell asleep for 12 hours. It was glorious. The next time I attempted to eat an edible it did not go quite as well. The first time I had only eaten half of one, and the second time I decided I was ready for a full brownie, but I was not. Melissa , the girl she was talking to, and I went for an L ride (to smoke a blunt while driving around for you newbies) and I had to have her pull over so I could throw up because I was too high and very dizzy. I’ve never had this happen to me again from an edible, and I also was high for about a day straight from this one which was a one time thing as well.

After being reintroduced to pot through edibles, my friends and I began to actually smoke weed. My one friend was seeing an older guy, a junior, who had an apartment off campus where we partied and could go and and smoke whenever we wanted. This was where it all really began for me. Hanging out with my friends and passing a bowl around, all getting fried out of our minds and then going out on adventures either to get food or back to campus. This was where we bonded, where lasting friendships were made, and where I learned I loved cannabis.

In the summer after my freshman year, I had had enough of my strict religious parents controlling ways and I moved out of their house and into my ex-boyfriend’s. My ex was a terrible, abusive man, who was lazy and manipulative, but I was in love, and I really didn’t give a fuck as to what anyone thought about our relationship. I was taken off of my parents medical insurance, and my mental health began to struggle because I no longer had a means to get the medication I was prescribed for my bipolar disorder. I was also being mentally and physically abused by my ex and I spiraled into a horrible depression. During this time I used alcohol and drugs as a crutch to make myself feel better, however, the one substance that I actually felt helped me during this time was marijuana. It kept me calm, and my bipolar disorder from consuming me, and still does to this day. I still do not have medical insurance (even though I am in a much better spot financially than I had been 2 years ago) but I smoke ganja on the daily to help handle my bipolar disorder and the PTSD that I have from my past relationship. It’s something that’s a part of my routine now and helps me deal with all of the complications life throws at me.
